My boots

These are my boots and my granddaughter has been wearing them every time she visit's lately. It won't be long and she will pass my height and shoe size. Some people think of me as short and having little feet yet it's always remarkable for members of my family to share this time together before they pass me by.

Another rose

Similar to autumn rose yet very different,  you can tell by the center petals they twirl around each other creating movement in the composition.

Rose IV

This painting was started and quickly became frustrating due to many interruptions which couldn't be avoided earlier in the week.  So......after leaving it alone for a couple days it is done, yeah.

Pear and pineapple

It is unusual for me to have a fresh pineapple, yet here it is, playing second fiddle to the pear but that couldn't be avoided.

Autumn rose III

This rose has so many interesting shapes and colors.  The stem and leaves have their own character that enhances the overall effect.

Half slices

One last cantaloupe composition that was waiting around to get painted. The fruit is going out of season, however the tree's are full of these colors.

Blue berries

This was an idea photographed earlier in the summer and it didn't seem right to let it go by without being painted.  Although painting from real life is so much better for learning to see my camera is used to make reference photo's at the same time.

Autumn rose

It had been over a year since my last visit to a florist and recently there has been two visit's in the last month. What a surprise to find another beautiful rose perfect for the fall season.

This is the last painting for this litter of kittens.  Each of these last three paintings were executed differently from each other.  What joy it was painting fur and those cute faces making each painting as individual as the kitten.

This kitten became our keeper. We intended him to be an outside cat like his mother only he likes it inside better.

Cautious kitty

Sliced cantaloupe II

Part of the fun with an idea is to come up with different perspective's or arrangements of the same item's.  The orange on the white plate was a color combination that caught my eye and it also produced some interesting shadows.  This is the fourth cantaloupe painting since July check out the others if you like.

Roses are not my favorite flower until this one came along.  I stopped at a florist to check on discount flower day, thinking ahead for winter months, look what they had for me, a lucky day indeed.

Wine and grapes

This is the fourth painting of grapes each background was the same cloth with light fused with a piece of fabric to cast the soft hues.

Grapes with green

This is the third in the grape series one more on the easel should be ready for tomorrow.

Red out

In July the painting Red on top was the same group of cherries as used in this painting.  When one still life is selected for painting several photographs are made at the same time. This came in handy for me since right now my husband is with me and were riding our ATV's in Northern Michigan.  Spring and fall are our favorite times to ride.  It was a great day and tomorrow we will be riding all day.

Another gladiolus view

How time flies it has been 6 days since my last post.  It was the Labor Day weekend, enjoyed time with friends and family and didn't get into my studio.  Today finished this painting and another painting 30x36 inches so feeling good about this.  Hope you had a great holiday.

More gladiolus

Adding more flowers and keeping the brush strokes simple was a challenge. To bring the viewer into the focal point more detail was used in that area.

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

This time of the year gladiolus can be purchased 5 stems for $2.50 now that is a bargain. If you grow them in Michigan they must be dug up each fall or the bulbs rot like mine did.  It is important to help the economy so mine are purchased from a Michigan farm delivered right to my grocery store.

Cucumber & tomato trio

The cucumber slice is the intended center of interest however the tomatoes seem to work too.
